One Wisconsin Now Calls for Walker, Ryan to Condemn Trump Attack on Hero John Lewis
Republicans ‘Must Immediately Condemn Loathsome Comments Made by President-Elect’
MADISON, Wis. — The entire staff of One Wisconsin Now released the following statements demanding Wisconsin Republican elected officials and the Republican Party of Wisconsin immediately and publicly condemn the reprehensible comments about American hero Rep. John Lewis tweeted this morning by Republican President-Elect Donald Trump.
“Republican leaders in Wisconsin from Scott Walker to Paul Ryan to Sean Duffy to Ron Johnson worked to elect Donald Trump. In no uncertain terms, they and the Republican Party of Wisconsin must immediately condemn the loathsome comments made by the president-elect against American hero Rep. John Lewis. That this attack comes by Trump against Rep. Lewis as we are set to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. is particularly galling. Trump’s actions require Republicans today to set aside partisanship for the first time when it comes to their party’s leader, embrace simple human decency and publicly reject this attack. Although Gov. Walker and Republican politicians disagree with Rep. Lewis that voter suppression laws proven to target African Americans are racist, unconstitutional and un-American, they cannot condone this attack on the living civil rights legend. Period. Full stop.”

John Lewis got beat up by Democrats and he is blaming Republicans for what? Pres. Trump will be better for Black People, unlike Barack Obama who only kept Black people dependent on the Federal Gov. Just giving stuff to people isn’t helping them. Jason Riley’s book ‘Please Stop Helping Us’ is quite apropos. Pres. Trump wants to have a society where all people will have to opportunity to progress up to their ability. This was starting to happen before Pres. Obama came along; he has hurt a large portion of the Black community. Hopefully this will stop in the next administration.
Normally when I make a comment I give my full name because I’m not ashamed of what I say but the time we are living in, that is not a good idea anymore. That’s TRAGIC.
David ????
Rep. John Lewis knew full well that Trump would strongly respond to his ‘illegitimate president’ comment.
But I bet he won’t answer Trump’s challenging response on Lewis’ serving his district better.
What does Trump know about Lewis’s district? He knows Lewis is black so he spouts off about crime, but Lewis represents a wealthy area with the world’s busiest airport. Trump didn’t know that and has no business telling Lewis he should serve his district better. But I’m sure the white supremacists love it.
Trump’s response to Lewis was not challenging. It was ignorant and intemperate. Lewis wisely ignored the fake challenge and reiterated his position that it is unwise to ignore injustice.

Georgia’s 5th congressional district is a congressional district in the U.S. state of Georgia. The district is currently represented by Democrat John Lewis, though the district’s boundaries have been redrawn following the 2010 census, which granted an additional congressional seat to Georgia.[3] The first election using the new district boundaries (listed below) were the 2012 congressional elections.
Based in central Fulton and parts of DeKalb and Clayton counties, the majority African American district includes almost three-fourths of Atlanta, the state capital and largest city. It also includes some of the surrounding suburbs, including East Point, Druid Hills, and Forest Park.[4]
Certain areas within the City of Atlanta meet the State of Georgia criteria for targeted urban
redevelopment, as defined by the Urban Redevelopment Law (O.C.G.A. 36-61). These areas present
conditions such as deteriorating or inadequate infrastructure; a predominance of dilapidated or vacant
buildings, higher levels of poverty and unemployment and other signs of blight and distress. The
persistence of these conditions substantially impairs or arrests the sound growth of the City and
constitutes an economic and social liability that is a menace to the public health, safety, and welfare.
As such, the State of Georgia enables the use of redevelopment tools to undertake actions to improve
the conditions of a specifically designated area, otherwise labeled as an Urban Redevelopment Area
(URA). The URA must meet certain standards for depressed or derelict conditions based upon the
predominance of the physical indicators mentioned above. This document is intended to fulfill the role
of the Urban Redevelopment Plan for the City of Atlanta and identify the Urban Redevelopment Area
(URA) as adopted by the City.
URBAN REDEVELOPMENT AREA BOUNDARY
The proposed boundary of the URA is shown on the attached map. This area was determined using a
series of data inputs including:
Census block groups having 15% or greater poverty
Higher percentage of vacant or underutilized parcels
Lower rate of building permits and business license applications
Higher rate of distressed properties, code enforcement actions and home foreclosures
Higher rate of criminal incidents
In addition, Fort McPherson and the Chattahoochee Industrial District were added to the URA. Both of
these areas are completely surrounded by Census block groups showing higher rates of poverty and
physical distress. In addition, Fort McPherson is a large parcel prime for redevelopment, and the
Chattahoochee Industrial District is experiencing pressure to convert away from industrial uses.
SUMMARY OF FINDINGS
All of the URA is home to households with higher concentrations of poverty.
The City of Atlanta has had an unemployment rate about one percent higher than the state and
national averages for the past five years. In 2010, the unemployment rate was 10.5% compared
to the national average of 9.5%.
Over 13% of the URA is classified as vacant land by the City’s Existing Land Use data.
The URA is also the location of 75% of the foreclosures completed in the City in 2010.
According to City data, 88% of the City’s dilapidated structures are located in the URA.
85% of all Code Compliance actions are reported in the URA.
The URA had a building permit rate 25% lower in 2009 as compared to the City as a whole.
The URA had a business license rate 26% lower than the City overall.
Always folow the money.
Facts do matter and I did not say that his district is without problems. All urban areas have problems. Tell me Steve, how do you know how well Lewis is serving his district? Do you live in that district? Even most Republicans chastised Trump for criticizing Lewis, who is twice the man Trump will ever be. Having temper tantrums on Twitter is pathetic and beneath the office he is going to hold.
