According to Wendy Hottenstein, project manager with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Bureau of Aeronautics (BOA), the project will replace the existing six-foot perimeter fence with a 10-foot fence with barbed wire to meet current and FAA standards. The fence will promote safety and security by deterring wildlife and unauthorized entries.

The project will not disrupt air or vehicle traffic at the airport.

General Mitchell International Airport is one of 97 facilities included in the Wisconsin State Airport System Plan, which makes it eligible for state and federal funding. Airport improvement projects are administered through WisDOT’s BOA.
