Sen. Luther Olsen: “We Don’t Need Everybody To Go To College”
Olsen's comments are indicative of his failed leadership on the issue of college affordability.
MADISON – Senator Luther Olsen continues to show how out of touch he is with the people of the 14th Senate District. Earlier this week, Sen. Olsen confidently declared “We don’t need everybody to go to college.”
Olsen’s comments are indicative of his failed leadership on the issue of college affordability. As a member of the Joint Finance Committee, Olsen helped usher a budget through the legislature that cut over $500 million in from the UW-System. Twice, the Senator voted against common-sense legislation that would allow the 800,000 Wisconsinites burdened with over $19 billion in student loan debt to refinance their loans at lower rates and save hundreds of dollars each month.
“Sen. Olsen’s contempt for everyday Wisconsinites is crystal clear. Whether it’s choosing to eat pie instead of caring for elderly veterans or refusing to meaningfully address college affordability, Olsen isn’t doing his job in the Senate,” Democratic Party of Wisconsin spokesman Brandon Weathersby said on Thursday. “The 14th Senate District deserve a Senator that will fight for them – not with them.”
