Glendale, WI, Local Named Finalist in America’s Better Sandwich Contest
$25,000 grand prize winner to be announced on “National Sandwich Day,” November 3
Sweet, savory and spicy: these flavor profiles were served up with a twist for the third annual “America’s Better Sandwich™” Contest, which tallied more than 2,900 entries from sandwich connoisseurs across the country. Today, Arnold®, Brownberry® and Oroweat® Bread unveiled the Top 15 finalists and the unique, delicious sandwich recipes that have made the cut to the next round. Now, it’s time for America to help decide who will take home the grand prize dough of $25,000 and the title of creating “America’s Better Sandwich™.”
Glendale, Wisconsin, local Lacey Muszynski crafted a unique, nutritious sandwich recipe that is so delicious that she has been named one of 15 finalists in this year’s Brownberry® “America’s Better Sandwich™” contest from a pool of more than 2,900 entries. Estabrook’s recipe—“Smoked Salmon and Avocado Toast”—was chosen as a finalist for the contest’s “Open-Faced Artistry” category.
Smoked Salmon and Avocado Toast
Ingredients:
1 slice Brownberry® Healthfull® Flax and Sunflower Bread, toasted
½ small, ripe avocado 3 oz. smoked salmon 6 thin slices English cucumber 6 spinach leaves 1 small radish, julienned
½ tsp. capers, drained
½ tsp. fresh dill, chopped Fresh lemon juice
Directions:
Arrange spinach leaves evenly on toast.
Cut the avocado into chunks, arrange evenly on spinach, and smash gently with a fork. Sprinkle avocado with fresh lemon juice and salt to taste.
Arrange cucumber slices on top of avocado, followed by an even layer of salmon.
Scatter radish, capers and dill on top and serve.
From September 26 until October 23, the Glendale community can help Lacey bring home the grand prize dough of $25,000 by casting their votes at www.AmericasBetterSandwich.com. The winner will be announced on National Sandwich Day, November 3. For every vote submitted during the voting phase, Brownberry® will donate a loaf of bread, up to 100,000 loaves, to Feeding America, its official charitable partner.
