Oktoberfest Comes to Whitnall Park, Sept. 24-Oct. 30

Milwaukee, WI (Sept. 20, 2016) – To extend the beer-garden season at Milwaukee County’s most popular location, the Parks Traveling Beer Garden will transform into Oktoberfest: Whitnall Park, Saturdays and Sundays, Sept. 24-Oct. 30, from 11 a.m.–6 p.m. The beer garden is located at Picnic Area #1, near the intersection of South 92nd Street and West College Avenue.

Among the offerings will be 10 Oktoberfest beers, including two premium Munich brews. Breweries represented are Central Waters Brewing Co., Great Lakes Brewing Co., Lakefront Brewery, Leinenkugel’s, New Glarus Brewing Co, Stevens Point Brewery, Samuel Adams, Sprecher Brewing Co., Hofbräuhaus, and Spaten Brewery. Also featured will be two pumpkin beers by Milwaukee Brewing Co. and New Holland Brewing Co.

Live music will add atmosphere to the setting, each day with acts from 11 a.m. –2 p.m. and 3–6 p.m. (Live Music Schedule follows release.)

Rounding out the adult beverage selection will be a variety of Sprecher seasonal draft beers, Miller Lite beer, and Riesling and cabernet wines.

Non-alcoholic beverages offered include Sprecher draft root beer and seasonal gourmet soda, bottled sodas, and bottled water.

Food items available for purchase will be soft pretzels, brats, burgers, hot dogs and pizza.

The beer garden will be staffed by Milwaukee County Parks employees. Beverages will be served in the Parks souvenir glass pints and steins, with refills offered at reduced prices. Patrons may bring a pint- or liter-sized glass from home and receive the same reduced prices.

Families are welcome to pack their own picnic lunches or suppers and non-alcoholic beverages. License restrictions prohibit the carry-in of any alcohol. Grilling is not allowed at the beer garden site or the immediate surrounding area.

Facilities offer shared-table seating, where families are encouraged to make new friends. The beer garden is wheelchair accessible and has ample restrooms, parking, park activities, and a covered structure nearby.

Beer gardens in Milwaukee have been a tradition, bringing friends, families, and neighbors together in a relaxed, social setting. With the arrival of German immigrants in the mid-1800s, beer gardens began to spring up—often located in parks. By the late 1800s beer gardens were prolific throughout the city as the center of summer social life.
