Labor Day Edition
Two historic buildings are completely covered as their facades are restored.
A number of buildings in the historical commercial core of downtown Milwaukee are undergoing renovation. The Loyalty Building, 611 N. Broadway, is undergoing an extensive renovation as it is converted to the Hilton Garden Inn hotel by First Hospitality Group, Inc. The Iron Block Building‘s facade is getting completely restored as part of the relocation of Dental Associates to downtown Milwaukee from Wauwatosa. The facades of both buildings are currently covered as workers restore the historic buildings.

My great grandparent’s candy store was once in the Iron Block. It was called Webers Candies. I will put a photo of the front of it on my web site so you can see the facade in circa 1890.
Here is a bit more information on Webers store in the Iron Block:
1 June 1885 with Louis Weimann, A. F. Weber bought a confectionery and fruit store from John D. Droppers, Jr. for $800.00 at 83 Wisconsin Street, Milwaukee, Wisconsin–a 19 by 40 foot shop in the Iron Block.
