Fitzgerald Praises Arena Lease Agreement
"This agreement meets the spirit of Act 60 and fulfills the legislative intent of protecting Wisconsin’s taxpayers."
[Madison, WI] Wednesday morning, the Wisconsin Center District Board (WCDB) announced an agreement with the Milwaukee Bucks organization on the lease terms and key provisions for a new arena in downtown Milwaukee.
Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald, who sits on the WCDB, released the following statement:
“I am pleased that the Center District Board was successful in completing a good faith negotiation with the Milwaukee Bucks over the terms of the lease governing Milwaukee’s new sports and entertainment destination. This agreement meets the spirit of Act 60 and fulfills the legislative intent of protecting Wisconsin’s taxpayers. By capping public investment, this plan keeps costs down and ensures that the team—not the taxpayers—will be responsible for any unexpected expenses.
This agreement represents a decision to make a public investment in Wisconsin’s future. Construction of the new arena will generate over $600 million in projected tax revenue, ensure that the major economic driver of an NBA franchise will stay in Wisconsin for decades to come, and spur a massive private investment that will encourage economic growth from Milwaukee throughout the state.”
Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald (R-Juneau) represent the 13th Senate District, which covers portions of Dodge, Jefferson, Waukesha, Washington, Dane, and Columbia counties.
