Statement from State Senator Janis Ringhand on the Joint Committee on Finance action today
“Today’s action marks a step in the right direction for the I-90/39 highway project.”
Today, the Joint Committee on Finance approved releasing $350 million in additional transportation funding and approved Assembly Bill 453, a proposal that would require the Department of Health Services to expand Family Care and IRIS (Include, Respect, I Self-Direct) programs to Rock County.
“Today’s action marks a step in the right direction for the I-90/39 highway project. The additional funding will reduce the delay in the I-90/39 project by one year. I will continue to press for long term funding solutions for our transportation program and to fully get I-90/39 back on schedule.
It seems like every day we read about an accident on I-90/39. So far this year there have been 322 accidents, 80 injuries and 3 fatalities on I-90/39 in Rock County through August. The cost of delaying this project is just too high.
I am so pleased that the Joint Committee on Finance approved the bill allowing Family Care and IRIS to expand to Rock County. Elderly and disabled residents of Rock County have waited too long for Family Care and IRIS. This bill is first step in providing these essential services.”
