Milwaukee Film’s November Programming Features Film Noir Classics, Live Organ Accompaniment, Filmmakers in Attendance, a Native American Heritage Day Screening, and More!
November at Milwaukee Film’s historic cinemas will be jam-packed with exciting screenings and events, starting off with a month-long celebration of the Film Noir genre in a series affectionately titled Noirvember. This month also features a one-night-only screening of 1927’s Wings with live organ accompaniment, a newly reconstructed version of a cult classic with Caligula: The Ultimate Cut, and a special documentary screening in recognition of Native American Heritage Day—plus the previously announced 2026 Michael Schultz Award, presented with the support of Brewers Community Foundation and Mark and Wanda Staples, which will be awarded to actress and filmmaker Kasi Lemmons on November 14.
Noirvember – Starts November 1, 2026
All November long, Milwaukee Film will be screening a selection of Film Noir classics at the historic Oriental Theatre—many of which were celebrated by Rolling Stone senior editor and film critic David Fear in his presentation at last month’s Film Fête fundraiser.

Michael Schultz Award Recipient: Kasi Lemmons – November 13-14, 2026
Last week, Milwaukee Film announced multihyphenate Kasi Lemmons as the recipient of the 2026 Michael Schultz Award, the second iteration of this annual award presented to a luminary Black filmmaker, sponsored by the Brewers Community Foundation and Mark and Wanda Staples. On November 13 and 14, Milwaukee Film will screen three films that showcase Kasi Lemmons’ range, from her work as an actor on the original Candyman, to her writing and directing on the influential feature films Eve’s Bayou and the criminally underseen Talk to Me. On November 14, both Kasi Lemmons and Michael Schultz will be in attendance for in-person discussions around each screening, as well as an award ceremony at the Oriental Theatre.
Public screenings included in the 2026 Michael Schultz Award are listed below:
- Screening of Candyman | Nov. 13, 2026, 9 PM | Oriental Theatre
- Screening of Talk to Me with director Q&A to follow | Nov. 14, 2026, 2 PM | Oriental Theatre
- Screening of Eve’s Bayou with awards presentation and extended Q&A preceding | Nov. 14, 2026, 7 PM | Oriental Theatre
Caligula: The Ultimate Cut – November 5, 2026
Shadowed by the murder of his entire family, the young, wary Caligula (Malcolm McDowell) eliminates his devious adoptive grandfather (Peter O’Toole) and seizes control of the declining Roman Empire, descending into a spiral of depravity, destruction, and madness. A treatise on the corrupting influence of power, this extensive reconstruction of the notorious 1980 spectacle, Caligula: The Ultimate Cut, restores the complete performances of McDowell and Helen Mirren, as the promiscuous Caesonia, from an unprecedented amount of never-before-seen footage. This newly recut version of the film was an official selection of the 2023 Cannes Film Festival. This screening will be followed by an in-person Q&A with the film’s editor Aaron Shaps.
Wings with Live Organ Accompaniment – November 8, 2026
Milwaukee Film is delighted to bring the 1927 silent drama Wings, which famously won the first ever Academy Award for Best Picture, to the historic Oriental Theatre for a special screening sponsored by Jodi and John Eastberg. This one-night-only screening will feature live accompaniment by Brett Valliant, one of America’s leading theatre organists. A frequent performer at conventions of the American Theatre Organ Society and the American Guild of Organists, Brett has toured extensively throughout the United States, Australia, New Zealand, and Europe. In 2021, he was honored as Organist of the Year by the American Theatre Organ Society. Currently, Brett is one of two resident organists at the iconic Organ Stop Pizza in Mesa, Arizona, home to the world’s largest theatre organ and a destination that entertains thousands of guests each year.
Rumble: The Indians Who Rocked the World – November 27, 2026
In recognition of Native American Heritage Day, Milwaukee Film will present a screening of the Rumble: The Indians Who Rocked the World, sponsored by Potawatomi Casino Hotel. Filmmakers Stevie Salas, Catherine Bainbridge and Alfonso Maiorana examine the musical contribution and bring to light the profound and overlooked influence of Indigenous people on popular music and the pioneering Native American musicians who helped shape the soundtracks of our lives. Focusing on music icons like Link Wray, Jimi Hendrix, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Taboo (The Black Eyed Peas), Charley Patton, Mildred Bailey, Jesse Ed Davis, Robbie Robertson, and Randy Castillo, this 2017 documentary shows how these pioneering Native American musicians helped shape the soundtracks of our lives.
