East Town Market serves up local produce and goods with side of free entertainment
Saturday farmer’s market featuring yoga, dance workouts, cooking demos and music
MILWAUKEE, Wis. (June 2, 2014) – The East Town Association is gearing up for their first installment of the East Town Market, Saturday, June 7 from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. in Cathedral Square Park. The weekly Market offers fresh produce, locally made crafts and prepared foods every Saturday through Oct. 4, with the exception of July 12, Bastille Days’ Kids Day. This season, East Town Market is stepping up entertainment for market-goers with live musical acts, outdoor yoga, dance workouts and cooking demonstrations.
“The East Town Market is a wonderful opportunity to connect downtown consumers to the fresh, local food they want,” said Kim Morris, executive director of the East Town Association. “Going beyond quality produce, we’re offering a mix of free programming that really embraces a health-conscious mindset.”
The Wisconsin Athletic Club (WAC) will jump-start each market morning with their free Yoga in the Park from 9 – 10 a.m. on the Cathedral Square Park stage. Lead by the WAC’s experienced yoga instructors, the weekly sessions take place rain or shine, relocating to 411 E. Wisconsin Ave. during unfavorable weather. Danceworks will energize attendees with weekly bhangra dance workouts from 10 – 11 a.m. through Aug. 30. On Aug. 2, market-goers will enjoy an energetic performance by Danceworks in place of instruction.
New this year, the East Town Market will feature chef demonstrations on the fourth Saturday of
every month. From 10 – 11 a.m. on June 28, July 26, Aug. 23 and Sept. 27, Michael Feker, executive chef at IL MITO, will treat attendees to a cooking and farmer’s market-shopping demonstration during his Plant to Plate series. Chef Feker will provide market browsing tips and step-by-step tutorials on preparing signature dishes using fresh, local ingredients.
The East Town Market’s June 7 kick-off will feature Yoga in the Park from 9 – 10 a.m. and Danceworks’ bhangra workout from 10 – 11 a.m., followed by live music by the Bob Barry Wedding Trio on the Cathedral Square Park stage from 10:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. For more information on the East Town Market and weekly entertainment lineup, visit www.easttown.com or call 414.271.1416.
