At a “Women for Crowley” campaign event held at the Pfister Hotel on Monday, David Crowley rallied voters alongside his wife, Ericka Crowley, and former Vice President Kamala Harris eight days ahead of the Nov. 3 gubernatorial election.

Harris’ stop in Milwaukee is part of a multistate tour to help Democrats on midterm ballots across the nation. She urged Wisconsin voters to turn out and “turn anger into action” at the rally.

Ericka Crowley was the first to take the stage. She shared her frustrations with rising costs, outlined her husband’s work as Milwaukee County executive and highlighted his position on reproductive rights as a father of three girls.

“I know a man who is a girl dad and believes that every Wisconsin woman deserves the freedom to decide what is best for her own body,” Ericka said of Crowley. “I know a man who will fight for a Wisconsin where our daughters, and all daughters, can grow up knowing they are respected, knowing they are trusted and knowing they are empowered to be in control of their own bodies and futures.”

Crowley echoed Ericka’s remarks: “For the women out there, when they overturned [Roe v. Wade], you got less rights. So this election really comes down to one simple question: Who will your next governor work for?”

“I am going to make sure that the women in the state of Wisconsin don’t have to hold their breath every four years to make sure you get access to reproductive rights,” Crowley said, promising, if elected, to work with the state Legislature to “make sure we have a constitutional amendment to protect reproductive freedom” in Wisconsin.

When Harris took the stage, she addressed Crowley’s stances on affordable health care and child care. She also outlined Tom Tiffany‘s help in trying to overturn the 2020 presidential election results and his vote for the “Big Bad Bill” that, in part, cut Medicaid by $1 trillion.

She said Medicaid helps pay for “half the births in America,” maternal health care and rural hospitals. “So to find out who stands for what” on issues related to women, she said, “all we have to do is look at the record.”

“The measure of the strength of a leader is based on who you lift up, not who you beat down,” Harris said.

Tiffany’s campaign circulated a news release before the event, describing it as a “Rally for California Policies in Wisconsin: Sanctuary Cities, Higher Taxes, More Government.”

“Crowley and Harris share a job-killing, radical-left agenda that keeps Wisconsin families from getting further ahead,” reads Tiffany’s release.

The release attacks Crowley on a number of issues, including rising property taxes, immigration and gun control.

Five of the six links provided to fact-check these attacks lead to Tom Tiffany’s “War Room” X account, rather than a news article, official legislation or independent fact-checker.

After the rally, attendee Deborah Blanks said, “What stuck out for me is that many people are thinking about how we are at a critical time in our country and our decisions have to be the ones that move us forward. This isn’t a time to pit ourselves against each other, but understand that we all sink or swim together.”

Blanks moved to Milwaukee in 1982. She said that “as a seasoned person,” referring to her age, the three issues she cares most about are the economy, health care and democracy.

“We are connected to the idea of America being a democratic society that provides all of us with opportunities to be successful,” she said. “We need to continue to fight for what our forefathers and foremothers fought and died for.”
