I-94 East-West Hits Major Milestone With Upcoming Traffic Shift

By - Oct 7th, 2026 10:26 am

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) continues to progress with constructing the West Leg Segment of the I-94 East-West Freeway project in Milwaukee County.

During the week of October 12, a traffic switch is scheduled to take place on I-94 between Hawley Road and General Mitchell Boulevard, shifting traffic to the outside lanes as work begins in the median. With this traffic switch, crews hit a major milestone by placing eastbound traffic onto the project’s first section of newly built roadway.

As part of this work, the I-94 eastbound exit to General Mitchell Boulevard and the General Mitchell Boulevard entrance ramp to I-94 westbound are scheduled to close long-term through spring 2027.

NOTE: All General Mitchell Boulevard ramps will be open and available for use on Brewers home playoff gamedays.

All work is weather dependent and subject to change.
