Commission Looking To Honor Milwaukee’s Best Preservation Projects

Do you have a favorite recent preservation effort? The Historic Preservation Commission wants to hear it.
The citizen-led commission is soliciting nominations for its Cream of the Cream City awards.
Its 2024 awards program recognized projects big and small, including the redevelopment of the former William McKinley School, the ‘quintessital definition of blight’ before it was rehabbed into affordable housing and the renovation of multiple historic houses.
The awards program dates back to 1993, though it wasn’t held in several years. The missing years include 2018 through 2023.
The deadline to submit a nomination is April 7. To qualify the project must have been completed in the past five years, be current on taxes and free of violations. In addition to specific projects, individuals may also be nominated.
The winners will be announced at a May 29 ceremony at Best Place at the Historic Pabst Brewery, 917 W. Juneau Ave.
