    Interesting article Michael and Happy Birthday. At one time in my life I worked across the street. All of these buildings were built on swamp land. The pilings sat submerged in water until the great tunnel was dug. The pilings began to rot when exposed to air and Third Ward businesses poured creosote on them to prevent potential collapse. The DNR caught wind of that and said nix, nix. I’d be interested to learn how deep those concrete pilings are sunk.

    Knowing what we know now, I wonder if smoker wannabes might be asked to absolve the public (and insurance companies) from paying any costs related to smoking before they first toke up. They would have their “freedom” to slowly kill themselves and we wouldn’t to pay directly or indirectly for their choice.
