"If you can’t find something to enjoy in this city, you simply aren’t paying attention!"
What is your job and it’s responsibilities? Sarah Fierek. I’m the Director of Underwriting Partnerships & On-Air Personality with 88Nine Radio Milwaukee
I lead the Underwriting team at 88Nine RadioMilwaukee. We build relationships with local business owners, marketing managers, creative and non-profit agencies and Milwaukee visionaries. We help bring their message to our airwaves and design partnerships that impact the local economy and perspective.
How long have you lived in Milwaukee and what brought you here?
I moved here in January of 2006 for a Design Consultant position at Rubin’s Furniture. I started with 88Nine when it launched in 2007 as a part-time On-Air Personality. I’ve been along for the ride ever since, and I truly believe the journey is half of the prize.
How would you rate Milwaukee as a place to work and do business?
I love that Milwaukee is easy to navigate. People are passionate about making Milwaukee a great city to live and do business in. One of my favorite things to do is to connect people with one another. Fabulous things can result when you take a moment to introduce someone to another person who could compliment what the other is doing. I enjoy being a part of that process and watching this city grow! We are blessed to have so many visionaries among us!
Milwaukee is a gem when it comes to social activities! We have so many places to support that are working to make Milwaukee a destination. Philanthropists, visionary business owners, developers and architects are to thank in many ways! Yet, Milwaukeeans utilize the most creative natural places to have a good time too. If you can’t find something to enjoy in this city, you simply aren’t paying attention!
Do you see this as a good city for young people?
Absolutely! There are so many great things to build and be a part of! We have a solid foundation of leaders through many generations! To me, the beautiful part is to inspire one another to strive for the best. Speak with your actions!
What is your favorite Milwaukee building?
My favorite Milwaukee building…that is a tough one since it is no longer here. Prior to moving to the city, I would come visit friends here. When I was a senior at Winona State University I completed a photo essay of the exterior of the A.F Gallun & Sons Tannery complex. Something about the abandoned building ignited inspiration in me. I often wonder what the last moments of progress were like in an abandoned building as I wish for it to be redeveloped into something beautiful!
My current favorite building is the new home of 88Nine RadioMilwaukee! We hope to see you at our event September 28th or, if you can’t make it on the 28th, stop by for a visit and grab a treat from Stone Creek Coffee!
