Gallery Night and Day, put on by the Historic Third Ward Association, has become very important to both the visual artists community as well as art lovers and art advocates. For its 25th anniversary year, Mayor Barrett officially proclaimed July 27-28, 2012, to be Gallery Night and Day.

More than 60 venues in the downtown Milwaukee area participated by showcasing and promoting art and artists. It is a great way to discover art and local artists, helping our neighbors become fans and future art advocates and making Milwaukee a properly recognized city for creativity.

New this year was ART Milwaukee’s ART Park event in Catalano Square on Friday evening. Live painting in the park, live music in the park and free face and body painting from Splash Studios brought another creative component to the Third Ward.

Beyond all the great galleries showing work, there was a Plein Air painting competition where the public could watch artists in action throughout the Third Ward. Artists had 24 hours to create as many paintings as they wanted and on Saturday evening the P.H. Dye House became a pop-up gallery for this newly created work. Watch the Historic Third Ward Association website for the announcement of the winners.

The next Gallery Night and Day will happen October 19 and 20, 2012, mark your calendars now!
