Fashion advice column
We’re excited to announce our new addition to Threads, our fashion advice column. Kimberly Gomez, TCD’s new Fashion Director, who is also an image consultant and fashion stylist, will be answering all of your fashion questions. Bring them on! She’s a pro so she’ll give you usable, unbiased answers.
This fashion advice column is for men and women alike, so men, here’s a chance to get your image and style questions answered at no cost or public ridicule.
If you’re asking these via social media like Twitter, we’ll include your “handle,” unless you indicate otherwise, so people can see how smart you are to ask.
Our inaugural question from @pinkstarperez: I had a baby 6 months ago and am still in the between stage. What are some recommendations on professional wear for the office?
Kimberly Gomez: That’s an excellent question that I hear from many new mothers. There are a few ladies out there with perfect genetics so they shrink back to pre-pregnancy size almost immediately, but the rest of us have to work at it. With a new baby and everything that goes with that, who has time or energy to worry about getting back down to where you were before?
Going back to work is another emotional issue because you don’t want to leave your daughter or son, but you need to get back to the source that helps pay the bills (and you may even want to return if you love what you do). So let’s make the transition as easy as possible.
Here are some basics to get you through this transition period:
2 pairs of dress pants in neutral colors that can be paired with many tops
1 suit jacket in a neutral color, such as charcoal or olive green, which can dress up a casual outfit
3 tops that are draped or have ruching to hide tummy issues — get 1 print and 2 solids in fun colors
1 pair of dark wash, boot cut or straight leg jeans for casual days at the office
If you like skirts, get 1 in a neutral color that you can mix and match with your tops
If you like dresses (the easiest outfit ever — just 1 piece), get 1 or 2 that are A-line which hide imperfections
These pieces will get you through several months of professional life with no worries. You can either go to regular stores or shop at resale or thrift shops to get great finds at pennies on the dollar. No matter what your budget, you can purchase a transitional wardrobe that will get you through in style and comfort, while looking great.
Congratulations on the new love of your life!
