Starting a new year with “Choose” and the blues
Theater
Got a case of post-holiday blues? So does the latest act to visit the Marcus Center, the touring Blue Man Group — although their blues are a side effect of slathering grease paint all over their faces. The show is a difficult-to-describe mix of music and theatrical elements, illustrated by three performers a night. The blue crew are in town Jan. 3 (tonight) through Jan. 8, with shows at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday to Thursday, 8 p.m. Friday, 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday and 1 and 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $25 to $89; order at (414) 273-7206 or the Marcus’ online box office.
Music
Present Music’s done a good job of selecting pieces for audiences enjoy during its 30-year tenure in Milwaukee, but the audience is making the decisions for its anniversary concert Saturday. Choose will feature a selection of works chosen via online voting, as well as Daniel Erb’s Souvenir, a multi-media piece that includes pre-selected audience performers, neon lights and ping-pong balls. The concert is Jan. 7 at 7:30 p.m. at Turner Hall Ballroom; tickets are $35, $25 or $15, with half-price student seating available. Order at (414) 271-0711 or the online box office.
