Bike to Work with The Bicycle Federation

Bike to Work Week is almost here. From June 6-10, Milwaukeeans are challenged to ditch the car keys for a week and commute by bike (even Mayor Tom Barrett does it). Last week, I talked to Dave Schlabowske, the Milwaukee Bicycle and Pedestrian Coordinator about what the city is doing to make urban cycling safer and more convenient. Today I’ll chat with Kevin Hardman, Executive Director of the Bicycle Federation of Wisconsin, a statewide non-profit membership organization that advocates to move bicycling forward in the state.

“Our vision is that Wisconsin can be world-class in cycling,” says Hardman. To create that world-class environment, the Bike Fed works with communities, schools, and legislators to educate riders and protect or improve biking facilities across the state. From programs like Safe Routes to School to increased lobbying efforts, Hardman says the goal is simple.

“At the end of the day, it’s about getting people out on bikes.”
