Dancing with UPAF’s stars
The arts require money, lots of it. The United Performing Arts Fund, a combined effort to keep actors acting, dancers dancing, singers singing and musicians playing, kicked off its 2011-12 campaign Tuesday (March 29) at the Broadway Theatre Center, with the Skylight Opera Theatre as host.
They’re shooting for $9,650,000 this year. Now, if I were charged with raising that money, I would go and lie down for a week or so. But the atmosphere was positive, even giddy. These people really think they can do it. I did my small part by playing the wise-guy judge at a mock Dancing with the Stars competition. It was lots of fun.
