The Zoning, Neighborhoods and Development Committee will hear from the Department of City Development today about the quantity, status of and future plans for Milwaukee’s city-owned vacant lots.

The Communication file (#140450, attached) is sponsored by Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs, whose district includes more than 20 percent of city-owned vacant lots. The meeting will begin at 9:00 a.m. today in room 301 – B at City Hall, 200 E. Wells St.

“Due to the foreclosure crisis and subsequent deterioration of housing stock, parts of our city have been hit hard with demolitions, helping to create more than 2,000 vacant lots,” Alderwoman Coggs said. “It is imperative that the city has strategies to utilize these lots and start getting them back on the tax rolls.”

Today’s Zoning, Neighborhoods and Development Committee meeting will be televised live on the City Channel (Channel 25 on Time Warner Cable in the City of Milwaukee and on U-verse Channel 99). Online viewing is available at milwaukee.gov/citychannel.
