Now, in the aftermath, it is time to find solutions to people’s frustrations and rebuild business.
On the day of Saturday, August 13th an incident occurred in the Sherman Park Community. The chaos that followed in the evening and morning ended in the burning and destruction of established businesses in the area. Now, in the aftermath, it is time to find solutions to people’s frustrations and rebuild business.
The events of this weekend have left the Sherman Park Community, including myself, stricken with grief and disgust. Being the community most affected by these events it is important that residents stay composed and work together. If violence is allowed to dictate how we address inequalities there will be nothing to gain for either side.
As a thirty-one year resident of the Sherman Park Neighborhood, I am deeply dedicated to the success of the community and understand the hardships of the citizens in our area. We are collaborating to help alleviate the frustrations that many people have felt towards our society and our government by bringing in resources and programs. For example I have been working with my colleagues, community leaders, as well as organizations such as Safe and Sound and the Sherman Park Community Association, prior to this incident.
I have no doubt that our community can be an example of unity and compassion during this trying time. Let us be a part of the solution to solve political injustices in America instead of adding to the wedge that is driving our society in two.
I would like to thank the people of the Sherman Park Community for working together to help clean up from the weekend’s events. I would also like to thank the Sheriff Milwaukee County and the Milwaukee Police Department for working to keep our people safe, as well as all of the elected officials who have worked to help the Sherman Park Community.
