Poetry in the Park

June 13, 2017 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Free

Poetry in the Park is an outdoor reading series in Juneau Park. Held near the Solomon Juneau Statue overlooking Lake Michigan, Poetry in the Park celebrates the written and spoken words of provocative community voices, including poets laureate, as well as prize-winning, published, and emerging writers. Bring chairs or blankets, snacks and beverages. Relax, listen, and enjoy.

June’s event will feature Dasha Kelly, an alumna of HBO’s Def Poetry Jam who has been thrice selected to travel to Botswana as an Arts Envoy for the U.S. Embassy. Kelly was named Artist of the Year in 2016 by the Milwaukee Arts Board, and her novel Almost Crimson received critical accolades from the Rumpus, Buzzfeed, and Kirkus.

Kelly will be reading alongside University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee PhD candidates C. McAllister Williams (author of Neon Augury and WILLIAM SHATNER) and Soham Patel (author of Riva: A Chapter and New Weather Drafts) and Angela C. Trudell Vasquez (editor for Art Light Books).
