MILWAUKEE (FEBRUARY 7, 2022) – Rochester public music radio station WRUR-FM and Ithaca station WITH-FM have added specialty program Rhythm Lab Radio from 88Nine Radio Milwaukee (WYMS-88.9 FM) to their on-air schedules, the stations announced Monday.

WRUR and WITH are part of WXXI Public Media, an award-winning broadcast family of services dedicated to meeting the lifelong educational needs of its audience in the Western New York area. Hosted by Tarik Moody, Rhythm Lab Radio will air on WRUR and WITH on Sundays from 7 to 9 p.m. EST.

“We were looking for something new and different that worked with our overall Triple-A music format, but also brought in additional audiences, with a more diverse spectrum of Triple-A,” said Michael Black, Radio Program Manager at WXXI Public Broadcasting Council. “Having listened to Tarik and Rhythm Lab Radio for some time now, I strongly feel this will be a great addition to the music discovery programming we currently air on Different Radio.”

WRUR and WITH are the fifth and sixth stations to carry Rhythm Lab Radio, joining WXPN-FM in Philadelphia; Vocalo-FM at WBEZ in Chicago; WHRV-FM in Norfolk, Va.; and WUNC-FM in North Carolina.

Moody said, “We are excited to be adding WRUR and WITH to the Rhythm Lab family. The services WXXI provides for the Rochester and Finger Lakes regions parallel the mission and impact we at Radio Milwaukee strive to have on our city.”

Moody started Rhythm Lab Radio in 2005 on Minnesota Public Radio. The show moved to Milwaukee in 2007 when 88Nine Radio Milwaukee launched. The weekly, two-hour program redefines the urban sound with a mix of jazz, electronic, hip-hop and soul music, with each episode introducing listeners to new artists that are testing boundaries and making music that does not fit neatly into a single box.

In its 15-year history, Rhythm Lab Radio has been the first to play several now-famous artists including Lianne La Havas, Michael Kiwanuka, The Internet and Kamasi Washington.

Rhythm Lab Radio is available for stations to carry in its full two-hour format or an abbreviated one-hour show. Stations interested in carrying the program can learn more at https://radiomilwaukee.org/rhythm-lab-radio-syndication/ or by contacting Host Tarik Moody at tarik@radiomilwaukee.org.
