The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) will host a public update meeting on the I-794 Lake Interchange Study. The meeting is an opportunity for the public to learn the latest on the study, understand the process, preview the defined alternatives and engage with WisDOT staff and representatives. The alternatives advancing include options from each concept group: No Build, Replace in Kind, Freeway Removal and Freeway Improvement.

Meeting Details:
Thursday, May 29, 2025
4 p.m. – 7 p.m.

Milwaukee Marriott Downtown (625 North Milwaukee St., Milwaukee, WI 53202)

Later this year, WisDOT, in collaboration with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), plans to issue a Notice of Intent (NOI) to prepare an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS). During this process, WisDOT will host a series of public involvement meetings to share additional details of the alternatives, and provide detailed findings on traffic, multimodal accommodations and other analyses, and gather public feedback.

All the alternative groups will proceed to the Environmental Review phase. Through the Environmental Impact Statement, an alternative will be selected for implementation.

The meeting facility is transit accessible and wheelchair accessible. Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid, service or an interpreter to participate may contact the I-794 Lake Interchange Study Manager, David Pittman, at david.pittman@dot.wi.gov or via the Wisconsin Telecommunication Relay System (dial 711 and request to connect with 262-548-6439) as soon as possible. Please allow time for arrangements by contacting the WisDOT representative at least three working days before the meeting.

About the I-794 Lake Interchange Study:
WisDOT, in partnership with the Federal Highway Administration and in close coordination with the City of Milwaukee and Milwaukee County, is evaluating alternatives for the I-794 Lake Interchange corridor, generally from the Marquette Interchange to the Hoan Bridge.

The purpose of the project is to address deteriorating infrastructure in a manner that improves safety and operations within the study corridor, while also striving to enhance community connectivity and compatibility with local plans and development.
