Wisconsin Republicans Completely Ignore Cost Crisis at Convention
MADISON, Wis. — Over the weekend the WisGOP hosted their convention where they endorsed their favorite MAGA candidates and cemented their extreme midterm agenda. All the while they completely avoided the most important issue their constituents have been crying out for them to fix: the cost crisis resulting from Republican policies that have made everyday living unaffordable. Not a single elected Wisconsin Republican congressman was willing to address the high grocery and gas prices that have caused enormous suffering for working and middle class families across the state.
“Elected Republicans acted like they were hosting their convention at Mar-A-Lago rather than in Wisconsin where people are suffering from their policies and illegal war,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin spokesperson Rachel La Due. “If Republicans like Derrick Van Orden, Bryan Steil, and WisGOP endorsed nominee for Governor Tom Tiffany can’t even provide a reason for why they continue to rubber-stamp the illegal war with Iran that’s making prices skyrocket, they certainly do not have a plan to fix it.”
When asked by reporters at the convention about gas prices and the cost crisis, Wisconsin Republicans floundered in their responses. WisGOP chairman Brian Schimming lazily tried to side step the question, saying that Republicans need to focus on turning out voters to the polls. Derrick Van Orden said prices are “tighter than it should be” but doubled down on his continued support of the war, whereas Bryan Steil, Tom Tiffany, Glenn Grothman, Scott Fitzgerald, and gas station mogul Tony Weid refused to acknowledge the cost crisis even exists.
