Wisconsin Must Fund Childcare
MADISON—Legislative Democrats introduced legislation to invest in Wisconsin’s childcare infrastructure. The bill supports childcare providers and workers, and working families in every community across the state. Following the press conference, Representative Robyn Vining (D-Wauwatosa) released the following statement:
“Wisconsin must fund childcare. Childcare professionals are the workforce behind our workforce, and serve a critical role in both the Wisconsin economy, and the development of Wisconsin children. And childcare must be affordable.
“Childcare professionals are the workforce behind our workforce–if Wisconsin does not have childcare workers, children will not have childcare and Wisconsinites will not be able to go to work. Wisconsin businesses, schools, healthcare infrastructure, and more, rely on a stable childcare infrastructure so that they can operate–they rely on their workers to be able to work. We must also have a strong and reliable childcare infrastructure so we can keep talent in Wisconsin, and attract talent to Wisconsin. We love and appreciate our childcare professionals for their role in Wisconsin’s workforce and economy.
“Childcare must be affordable–Wisconsin families deserve affordable childcare. Right now families are struggling to be able to afford to go to work–that’s unacceptable! Childcare is infrastructure and it’s time for Wisconsin to fund childcare as infrastructure.
“The $480 million investment will help providers stabilize the fragile and shrinking childcare infrastructure, find and keep qualified childcare professionals, and address the unaffordable cost of childcare. We must fund childcare so we can move Wisconsin forward, together.”
Rep. Vining represents the 13th Assembly District, which includes Elm Grove, and parts of Wauwatosa and Brookfield. For more information visit Rep. Vining’s website here.
