Wisconsin Emergency Management SEOC Update 1 – March Winter Storms
MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) is supporting the response to a winter storm impacting most of the state, resulting in blizzard and winter storm alerts. The SEOC was elevated to Level 3 on March 15.
The SEOC has been in communication with county and tribal emergency managers, and has received reports of highways being impassable, vehicle crashes, and some power outages as of 5 p.m.
The SEOC is actively coordinating resources and support with several state agencies including the Wisconsin Department of Military Affairs, Department of Transportation, Department of Natural Resources, and Department of Health Services.
The SEOC received two resource requests. Those requests include:
- Providing vehicles and personnel to aid stranded motorists.
- Blankets to give out to stranded motorists.
In addition, the American Red Cross has shelters staged if needed in La Crosse, Osseo, and Sister Bay.
The SEOC continues to actively monitor this winter storm and provide support should it be requested.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is asking people to stay home and limit travel to emergencies only. Travel is not advised across parts of northern Wisconsin as weather conditions make highways extremely hazardous and often impassable.
For updated travel information, follow official WisDOT sources like 511wi.gov, WisDOT and Wisconsin State Patrol social media platforms, and official WisDOT travel advisories and news releases.
The SEOC urges everyone impacted by this winter storm to continue monitoring weather alerts, follow the instructions of local officials, and maintain their personal emergency plans.
