MILWAUKEE, WIS. (September 27, 2018) – There will be a live televised debate featuring the candidates for Wisconsin’s Attorney General, between Republican incumbent Brad Schimel and Democratic challenger Josh Kaul. The debate is being hosted by WISN 12 in partnership with Marquette University Law School, and will take place on Sunday October 14, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. It will be moderated by Mike Gousha, host of WISN 12’s award-winning public affairs program, “UPFRONT,” and Distinguished Fellow in Law and Public Policy at Marquette Law School.

As in past debates, the candidates will be participating in a roundtable conversation with Gousha.  This will mark the 12th political debate co-sponsored by WISN and the Law School since 2010.

“Many important issues will affect our state in the coming months and years, and the outcome of this race is significant in terms of how those issues are addressed,” says Jan Wade, president and general manager of WISN 12. “WISN 12’s Commitment 2018 coverage is our opportunity to ensure that races like the one for attorney general are at the forefront for our viewers.”

Along with WISN 12’s live television broadcast of the debate, it will also live-stream on wisn.com, the 12 News Mobile App, WISN 12’s Facebook page, as well as on WisPolitics.com, an editorial contributor to “UPFRONT.” In addition to airing in Southeastern Wisconsin, it will also be featured on network stations for WISN 12’s “UPFRONT,” which include WBAY, WKOW, WAOW, WQOW and WXOW. Some “UPFRONT” stations may offer coverage on their multicast channels. Check local listings for carriage.

“Whether it’s the opioid crisis, school safety, or the enforcement of environmental regulations, the state’s attorney general plays an important role in the lives of Wisconsin citizens,” says Mike Gousha, host of “UPFRONT” on WISN 12. “This debate will help people make informed decisions about who should be the state’s top cop.”

“Beyond our primary goal of providing outstanding legal education to our students, Marquette University Law School aspires to serve as a modern-day public square for the city of Milwaukee, the state of Wisconsin and beyond,” says Joseph Kearney, dean of the Marquette Law School. “Our long-standing partnership with WISN, as a sponsor of debates in significant political races, ensures citizens have a place to come for serious civil discourse on public policy matters.”

Due to limited space, the event will be ticketed and seats for members of the public have been reserved.
