Whitefish Bay Village Board Approves Plans for a New Sendiks Food Market
Whitefish Bay, WI – On October 6, 2025, the Whitefish Bay Village Board approved a Development Agreement with Sendik’s Food Market to construct a new grocery store in the heart of the Silver Spring Business District.
With this new redevelopment, Whitefish Bay residents will benefit from a modern grocery store featuring gathering spaces, a bistro bar, and a larger shopping footprint. The project also paves the way for significant public infrastructure improvements, all achieved without impacting the property tax rate:
- Bike & Pedestrian Upgrades: Nearly $925,000 for safety improvements, including medians, bump outs, and pedestrian lighting at key intersections. $400,000 is reserved for future enhancements.
- Water Infrastructure: Replacement of 850 feet of century-old water mains.
- Parking Expansion: 16 additional public parking stalls.
- Comprehensive Public Works: $2.2 million invested in sidewalks, curbs, landscaping, stormwater management, roadway resurfacing, and a new traffic signal at Consaul and Silver Spring.
Sendik’s has been a cornerstone of Whitefish Bay since 1949 when it opened as a fruit and vegetable market on the current site. The store has undergone several expansions to meet the needs of the growing community, with the last major renovation occurring around 2009.
“This is a significant achievement for Whitefish Bay,” said Village President Kevin Buckley. “This project builds upon the Sendik’s legacy while delivering substantial infrastructure upgrades and improvements to our community, shaped through meaningful public engagement. I want to extend my gratitude to Sendik’s for their continued investment in our village.”
