Vukmir Backs Tax Breaks For Big Donors, Hikes On Working Families

MADISON — The Democratic Party of Wisconsin is continuing to profile ultraconservative, Republican Party of Wisconsin-endorsed U.S. Senate candidate Leah Vukmir‘s extreme policy positions, today highlighting Vukmir’s support for the scam Republican tax law that rewards large corporations and the wealthy few at the expense of hardworking Wisconsinites.
Previously, we’ve exposed Vukmir’s extreme plans to take away millions’ health care care, gut Social Security and Medicare, and abolish Wisconsin women’s right to choose. And Vukmir’s support for a tax law that gifts more than 80 percent of benefits to big corporations and the wealthiest Americans while hardworking families shoulder the burden is every bit as dangerous.
Just 39% of Americans support congressional Republicans’ scam law, but Leah Vukmir has nevertheless made her support for the law a central part of her candidacy. And Vukmir claims that the tax law — which is set to hike taxes on 53 percent of Americans at full implementation — is “good for everybody,” even as large corporations, including Kimberly-Clark in Wisconsin, lay off working people while using their tax breaks to pursue large-scale stock buybacks.
Why is Vukmir so enthusiastic about the law? Because praising the scam law is a great way for Vukmir to show corporate special interests and right-wing billionaires — like the Koch brothers, who are set to become $1 billion richer each year under the GOP law — that she’ll work for them in Washington and put their interests first at the expense of hardworking Wisconsinites.
Across the board, the Republican tax law that Vukmir’s campaigning on is a transparent giveaway to the wealthy few that will inflict real harm on hardworking Wisconsinites. The GOP law:
- Sends 80% of benefits to the richest 1 percent and big corporations like Exxon, Wells Fargo and drug companies like Pfizer;
- Shoulders 53% of Americans with tax increases once the law is fully implemented;
- Spikes health care premiums by 10 percent, and leaves 13 million more Americans without health insurance coverage; and,
- Sets the table for Republicans to pursue deep cuts to Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security — vital programs that cover millions of Wisconsin seniors and kids.
