Video Release of MPD Officer Involved Shooting
MILWAUKEE, WI— On Friday, June 12, 2026, at approximately 10:58 a.m., uniformed Milwaukee Police Department officers responded to a call for a subject with a gun who was threatening to shoot the caller in the 8500 block of West Kaul Avenue. Investigators later learned the suspect attempted to rob the caller. MPD officers observed the suspect armed with a revolver walking away from the scene and they attempted to stop him. The suspect told officers to shoot him as he held a revolver to his head and threatened to shoot officers. The suspect then fled on foot into a nearby apartment building, where he retreated to a 2nd floor landing in a common hallway. Officers heard a firearm discharged and made entry to the building. As officers repeatedly ordered the suspect to drop the revolver, an officer then discharged their firearm at the suspect. No one was struck at this time. Officers negotiated with the suspect for approximately one (1) hour.
As the officers engaged in conversation with the suspect, he agreed to accept a bottle of water and a cigar from the officers. The suspect then walked down the stairs to retrieve these items. At this time, less lethal options were used, including bean bag rounds, to attempt to arrest him. The suspect then retreated up the stairs to the landing in the common hallway. Officers that gained access to an upper unit heard shots. These officers encountered the armed suspect and then discharged their firearms at the suspect, subsequently striking him. The suspect was arrested, and medical aid was rendered at the scene. The suspect’s revolver was recovered near him. No officers were injured by gunfire.
The suspect, a 22-year-old male, was transported to a hospital where he succumbed.
The officers involved in this incident were placed on administrative duty as is routine in a critical incident.
The Milwaukee Area Investigative Team will be investigating this incident which is led by the Waukesha Police Department.
