Vanguard Milwaukee Presents LUNGS
Vanguard presents a Story of Love and Loss in the age of Climate Change.
Milwaukee, WI: Vanguard Milwaukee (formerly Vanguard Productions) is presenting their fall production of Lungs by Duncan MacMillan. This intimate, two-person play tells the story of a young couple navigating their decision to have children and the ethical implications of bringing a child into a warming world. Lungs will play ten performances at the Goodman Mainstage Hall at the Milwaukee Youth Arts Center, a new venue for Vanguard. The play opens on Friday, September 19th and runs through Sunday, September 28th.
Lungs will feature Vanguard’s Artistic Director George Lorimer and Caroline Hansen, with local actors Jake Badovski and Madison Uphoff understudying. The play is directed by Matt Daniels, a Juilliard trained actor best known for his recent turn as Ebenezer Scrooge in Milwaukee Rep’s A Christmas Carol. Daniels’ previous directing has included Door Shakespeare, and First Stage’s award-winning Young Company program. Lighting and Set Design will be by AntiShadows, LLC. Costume Design by Amelia Strahan with Sound Design by Elliott Brotherhood.
In accordance with Vanguard’s mission of bringing communities together through theatre, Vanguard will partner with local environmental and reproductive rights groups. These partner organizations will offer post-show talks and information about how climate change and reproductive justice affects communities here in Milwaukee. Audience members will have the opportunity to learn more about how to get involved with these issues in their communities.
Lungs runs September 19th through September 28th at the Goodman Mainstage Hall at the Milwaukee Youth Arts Center. Lungs runs approximately seventy-five minutes with no intermission. It features strong language and onstage intimacy and is appropriate for audiences fifteen and up. Tickets can be purchased at vanguardmke.com/tickets-and-events. $10 Artist tickets are available at the door for every performance, pending availability.
