Van Orden has Enabled Cuts that Threaten 175k on Social Security + 90k on Medicaid in His Own District

Republicans are in support of dangerous cuts to Social Security and Medicaid that will screw over their constituents in order to pay for their billionaire tax cut. Empowered by their allies in Congress like Derrick Van Orden (WI-03), Donald Trump and his supporters have led an aggressive effort to decimate Social Security’s workforce and infrastructure. These are cuts that target the core stability of this earned benefit American workers rely on.

“Van Orden has enabled cuts that will gut Social Security and Medicaid. He’s responsible for this, and while his voters are struggling to afford groceries and health care, they won’t forget Van Orden’s betrayal,” said American Bridge 21st Century spokesperson Nico Delgado.

Wisconsinites who depend on Social Security, Medicaid, and SNAP will suffer as a result:

• Approximately 175,996 of Van Orden’s constituents in Wisconsin’s 3rd District rely on Social Security.
• Approximately 90,900 (15.5%) of Van Orden’s constituents in Wisconsin’s 3rd District are covered by Medicaid or CHIP, and over 34,000 people in the district have used SNAP.

Van Orden voted to slash Medicaid and SNAP benefits despite promising he wouldn’t play “politics with a hungry child’s meal.” Van Orden previously voted for a Republican package that could have taken Medicaid coverage away from nearly two million Americans.
