Milwaukee, WI – Milwaukee County Supervisor Steve F. Taylor today issued the following statement regarding the UW-Extension contract, the proposed closure of the Hales Corners Wading Pool and capital improvement funding for the Hales Corners Park Pavilion and Pool.

“I would like to thank the County Executive for his decision not to veto my co-sponsored amendment, which continues funding UW-Extension or an amendment that permits the Hales Corners Wading Pool to remain open until a feasibility study can be commissioned and brought before the County Board in 2015.

“To that end, the amendment I authored, which appropriates $525,000 for capital improvements to the Hales Corners Park Pavilion and Pool was vetoed by the County Executive. However, with support from my colleagues the County Board overrode the veto with a 14-4 vote.

“All the decisions made today support essential community assets and I am extremely pleased with the results. These amendments not only provide funding for exceptional educational programming and needed capital improvements, they ensure community members have the opportunity to enjoy these cherished resources for the foreseeable future.

“Lastly, I commend the Friends of Wehr for their persistence on this issue, the Friends of Hales Corners Park and Pool for pledging the funds required to ensure the wading pool would remain open and the many community members who contacted my office in regards to these important issues”.
