Wisconsin painter Paula Swaydan Grebel is recognized for her thoughtful depictions of interior spaces and intimate domestic scenes. With a deep passion for art history, Swaydan Grebel draws inspiration from the masters of the past, particularly Paul Cézanne and his nuanced use of value through color. In her own paintings, color and scale work together to evoke the fleeting sensation of entering a room, suggesting suspended movement and introducing a subtle underlying tension. Her compositions invite viewers into light-filled interiors marked by quiet atmospheres and contemplative stillness.

Swaydan Grebel earned her B.F.A. from California State University, Long Beach, and later studied under key perceptual painters whose focus is to challenge what an observational painting can be. Her work is held in both private and public collections throughout the United States.
