The State Legislature Should Be as Transparent as Local Government
MADISON, Wis.- Representative Clinton Anderson joined Senator Chris Larson to introduce legislation, LRB-6565/1 to strengthen open records laws in the State Legislature. This bill would require the state legislature to have the same record retention requirements as local governments. Currently there is no requirement that Wisconsin legislators retain any of their records.
“Having come from local government, I strongly believe transparency is fundamental to public service. It still shocks me that in Wisconsin, state legislators can legally delete their own records while every other level of government is required to retain them. We should hold ourselves to the same standard. This bill is about building trust, ensuring accountability, and making sure the public has access to the decisions made on their behalf,” said Rep. Anderson.NOTE: This press release was submitted to Urban Milwaukee and was not written by an Urban Milwaukee writer.
