The Milwaukee Police Department’s New Tow Policy Goes into Effect
MILWAUKEE, WI – On Sunday, May 1, 2022, the new Milwaukee Police Department’s tow policy went into effect. This policy allows officers to tow vehicles when drivers are cited for an unregistered vehicle and also receive a citation for any of the following violations:
- Reckless Driving
- Excessive Speeding (25 MPH+)
- Fleeing from Officers
- Drag Racing
As of this release, seven vehicles have been towed as a result of this policy. Each vehicle had either expired, suspended or no registration. Multiple drivers had suspended driver’s licenses. The speeds ranged from 27 mph over to 37 mph over the posted speed limit. As a result of one of the seven tows, a large quantity of illegal drugs and a firearm were recovered from that vehicle. Criminal charges are pending.
In addition, TSU members will be handing out information on how individuals can recover their driver’s license if they have a suspended or revoked driver’s license.
The Milwaukee Police Department asks everyone to be part of the solution! Slow down, drive safe and make sure your vehicle is registered. Together we can help keep #MKESafe!
