MILWAUKEE— In July 2023, the Midwest Renewable Energy Association (MREA) and City of Milwaukee Environmental Collaboration Office (ECO) launched the 2023 Grow Solar Greater Milwaukee Group Buy Program which combines public education and the power of bulk purchasing with available incentives to make installing solar more attainable for Milwaukee County home and business owners.  Throughout the summer and fall, educational Solar Power Hours have been held across the metro area but the program is coming to a close on November 18th.

Before the 2023 Grow Solar Greater Milwaukee Program is over you can register to learn more about the program at the final Solar Power Hour this Thursday, November 2nd, 1:00-2:00 pm online via Zoom.

Solar Power Hours provide free solar education, financing information, opportunities to ask solar installers questions and to sign up for a no obligation solar site assessment of your property.  The assessment designs a custom solar system with a cost estimate that incorporates the available discounts and is provided by reputable contractors along with a strong warranty. November 18th is the deadline for home and property owners to sign up for a free solar site assessment from the program installers to see if solar is right for your property.

The Grow Solar Greater Milwaukee program provides a volume discount on the cost to install a solar system which is combined with additional incentives (tax credits and rebates).  MREA issued a Request of Proposals for the Grow Solar Greater Milwaukee program and two solar installation contractors were selected based on experience and on the discounted (group) rate they will offer.   The lower installation cost along with other incentives like new the federal Inflation Reduction Act’s (IRA) solar tax credits and rebates (available in 2024), the Focus on Energy solar rebate, and accessible and affordable financing through the Milwaukee Shines loan program (partnership between the City and Summit Credit Union) will make installing solar more affordable for Milwaukee residents.  Finally, after all Greater Milwaukee Grow Solar Program solar installations are counted a final program rebate based on a tiered scale will be unlocked and sent to customers. So, the more people that participate, the greater the potential savings!

“Milwaukee is committed to addressing the threat of climate change by advancing renewable and energy efficiency developments across the city. Since 2013, prior Solar Group Buy educational and group purchasing programs have helped hundreds of homeowners and businesses throughout Milwaukee County save money on their energy bills while reducing their carbon footprint,” Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson said.

Please consider taking advantage of this limited time opportunity to help save money and the environment!

The program’s final presentation will be offered on Zoom for all of Milwaukee County.
