TF Runs Strong at NYC Gotham Cup

Golden Eagles claim victory in three events.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The Marquette University track and field team kicked off their 2026 indoor schedule with a strong showing on the east coast at the NYC Gotham Cup Friday afternoon. The Golden Eagles claimed three event titles and set three new all-time top 10 marks in the event.

“It was a very good meet to open 2026. We’re very early in training, but we put down some very solid times for this early in the season” Bert Rogers, Director of Track and Field & Cross Country, commented on Friday’s meet.

Marley Stoller and Norah O’Brien represented Marquette in both the 200m and 400m events. The duo went 1-2 in the 400m, with Stoller running a personal-best 58.60 for first place and O’Brien running 58.65 for second. In the 200m, Stoller set a personal-best with a time of 26.12, while O’Brien ran 26.64, just .32 off her all-time best.

On the men’s side, Bobby King claimed victory in the 200m with a time of 21.94, the seventh-best time in program history. The freshman also ran in the 60m, setting a personal-best mark of 7.05. The 4x400m team of Blake FreaDrew KlopcicFrankie McGee, and Danny Olsen won the race with a time of 3:17.13, good for seventh-best in indoor program history.

Three Golden Eagles (McGee, Frea, Klopcic) ran in the 400m race, with Frea setting a personal-best mark of 50.26, good for fourth. Klopcic also ran a personal-best with a mark of 50.58, placing seventh, while McGee finished in 51.23 to finish 13th. In the 500m, Olsen set the second-best time in MU history with a time of 35.36, good for third in the event.

UP NEXT

The Golden Eagles are back in action this Sunday, Jan. 18, at the John Tierney Invitational down the road at the Klotsche Center on the campus of UW-Milwaukee. Field events begin at 10 a.m. CT, while track events start at approximately 2:30 p.m.
