Suspect Criminally Charged in Connection to Shooting

MILWAUKEE, WI – On Friday, January 5, 2024, the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office issued criminal charges against Harrel J. Martin in connection to shooting at Milwaukee Police Department (MPD) officers and subsequently striking an officer. The incident occurred on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at approximately 9:21 a.m., on the 1800 block of W. Fairmount Avenue.

Martin was charged with seven counts of Attempt First Degree Intentional Homicide, Use of a Dangerous Weapon, one count of Strangulation and Suffocation, Domestic Abuse, Infliction of Physical Pain or Injury, one count of First Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety, Domestic Abuse, Infliction of Physical Pain or Injury and one count of Possession of a Firearm by a Felon. If convicted, he could face up to 483 years, 6 months in prison and could be fined up to $60,000.

Our officer remains recovering at a local hospital. The Milwaukee Police Department continues to wish our officer a speedy recovery.
