Supervisors Allocate $210,000 for Washington Park Soccer Fields
Supervisor Marcelia Nicholson authored the resolution after listening to constituents.
MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors on Thursday authorized $210,000 to finance upgrades to the Washington Park soccer fields.
The funds for the improvements to the soccer fields had previously been allocated to pay for upgrades to the one of park’s two baseball fields.
“At a time when there is very little money available to repair or upgrade our parks infrastructure, I’m pleased that we found a way to make these resources available to respond to the needs of our Washington Park neighbors,” said Supervisor Nicholson, who authored the resolution.
“Neighbors told us that public use of the baseball fields has decreased in recent years, but use of soccer fields has continued to increase, so it just made sense to reallocate these funds to add another soccer field,” added Nicholson.
Supervisor Marcelia Nicholson authored the resolution after listening to constituents, an overwhelming majority of whom expressed support for repurposing one of the existing baseball fields as a multi-use field that could be used for soccer, flag football, lacrosse, or any other sports or games.
In addition to removing Washington Park’s west baseball field and related infrastructure, crews will improve the grading of the field and make other improvements to the turf.
