Supervisor Weishan Wishes Milwaukee County a Great Indigenous Peoples’ Day
MILWAUKEE – Supervisor John F. Weishan Jr. issued the following statement today on the occasion of Indigenous Peoples’ Day.
“I wish all Milwaukee County residents a happy Indigenous Peoples’ Day and would like to thank the students of the Indian Community School for their efforts in making this day an official Milwaukee County holiday. Wisconsin is well known for its rich indigenous cultures, especially in the Milwaukee area. I recognize those Milwaukee county residents of indigenous backgrounds and thank them for their many contributions to Milwaukee County and the State of Wisconsin,” said Weishan.
Supervisor Weishan sponsored legislation establishing the second Monday in October of every year as Indigenous Peoples’ Day in 2016.
