Supervisor Taylor Amendment Requires Trauma Sensitive Communication
The trauma responsiveness training proposed by Taylor would prepare DHHS staff to appropriately and compassionately serve individuals and families that have experienced trauma.
MILWAUKEE – The Finance Committee recommended adoption of an amendment to the 2020 Milwaukee County Budget, offered today by Supervisor Sequanna Taylor, that would require training in trauma sensitive communication for client service staff in the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).
“Our constituents come to Milwaukee County during some of their most challenging times. We must ensure they are not merely connected to the right office, but that they are treated with respect and dignity as well. It’s important that we help eliminate stress, and not compound the trauma they have experienced,” said Taylor.
The trauma responsiveness training proposed by Taylor would prepare DHHS staff to appropriately and compassionately serve individuals and families that have experienced trauma.
The training would be incorporated into DHHS’s “No Wrong Door” initiative, which seeks to eliminates barriers to county services at the first point of contact.
