The Milwaukee County Board Committee on Finance, Personnel and Audit voted to approve a budget amendment to refurbish the basketball courts at McGovern Park. It is an amendment brought in front of the Committee by Supervisor Khalif Rainey, whose district includes the park.
“I am pleased to share with not only the residents 2nd District but the entire County that I have successfully fouths to secure much needed improvements to the McGovern Park basketball courts,” Rainey said.
Rainey, who is also Vice-Chairman of the County Board’s Parks Committee, put together the amendment that will mean $248,000 for the planning, design and construction of the four northern courts at the park. This will be done without raising taxes.
“As many know McGovern Park is home to some of Milwaukee County’s most-utilized and most historic basketball courts,” Rainey said. “These much-needed improvements will provide our County’s youth with a safe outlet to partake in recreational activities.”
If approved the project will begin in 2014 with the planning and design phases. Construction would be done in 2015. The amendment now goes to the full County Board for approval.
County residents can speak on this amendment or any other budget topics at the annual County Board public hearing. It will be held Monday, November 4 starting at 4 p.m. The meeting will be at the Milwaukee County War Memorial Center. For more information, please click here.
