Supervisor Martinez Celebrates Passage of Resolution Advocating for Driver’s License Access to Undocumented Immigrants
MILWAUKEE – Today, the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors passed a resolution, encouraging the State of Wisconsin to adopt legislation allowing undocumented immigrants to obtain a driver’s license or State ID. Supervisor Juan Miguel Martinez released the following statement:
“This goes beyond bureaucracy; it’s about humanity. As a Chicano who grew up with immigrant parents, my gratitude to both my parents and the community runs deep. They instilled in me pride, work ethic, and the significance of standing by our community. I’m proud to champion this initiative, one that reinforces that Milwaukee County has the people’s back.”
The resolution emphasizes Milwaukee County’s commitment to inclusivity and acknowledges the many challenges undocumented immigrants face, such as the inability to purchase homes, apply for loans, or seek employment due to a lack of proper legal identification.
The resolution also recognizes the efforts of Voces de la Frontera, a prominent community non-profit in Wisconsin, which has been at the forefront of advocating for the rights of undocumented immigrants
