Stop Pitting us Against One Another

"Wisconsin Republicans are known for twisting the facts to incite outrage and today’s attack on immigrants is no different."

Fitchburg –Rep. Anderson released the following statement in response to false and unwarranted attacks on Wisconsin’s immigrants and Governor Evers’ budget.

“Wisconsin Republicans are known for twisting the facts to incite outrage and today’s attack on immigrants is no different. Governor Evers’ budget allows undocumented immigrants to receive in-state tuition once they establish three years of Wisconsin residency, graduate from a Wisconsin High School, and formally file for Wisconsin residency. The five-year residency requirement for veterans is for full tuition coverage under the GI Bill and has nothing to do with whether veterans pay in-state tuition. In-state tuition is available for every citizen, including veterans, by establishing 12 months of Wisconsin residency.

“We have to stop pretending like politics is zero-sum. Attacking immigrant communities doesn’t do anything to help veterans. We should be lifting everyone up, not tearing folks down and encouraging ugly, divisive politics. If we want more people to access one of the best school systems in the world, whether it is providing veterans with free tuition or granting in-state tuition to undocumented immigrants who have become a part of our communities, Governor Evers’ budget does just that.”
