MILWAUKEE, WI (May 9, 2022) – WISN 12 has been recognized by the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association (WBA) with more than two dozen awards. Among the awards are the top honors of ‘Station of the Year’ and ‘News Operation of The Year.’ For 7 out of the last 8 years, WISN 12 has been named ‘Station of the Year.’ In addition to those two prestigious designations, WISN 12 has received 10 first-place awards, 10 second-place awards and 4 third-place awards.

“We have a long standing tradition of high-quality reporting, passionate storytelling, and impactful programming,” says Jan Wade, president and general manager of WISN 12. “To be honored by the WBA for offering the very best in journalism and broadcasting across southeastern Wisconsin is an absolute honor.”

Included in the first-place awards are the on-air categories of morning newscast, evening newscast, continuing coverage, spot news, hard news/investigative, sports reporting and significant community impact. Other first-place wins include the categories of weather promotion, sports promotion and the use of social media.

“An award such as Station of the Year isn’t possible without having the most dedicated team here at WISN 12. The journalists, photojournalists, producers, editors, production crew, engineers, sales staff, creative services department, etc. are without a doubt second to none. These awards are evidence of that,” adds Wade

In the first-place awards, WISN 12 was recognized for excellence in its important local coverage of the most significant news events across Southeastern Wisconsin in 2021. These include the tragedy at the parade in Waukesha and the Milwaukee Bucks’ NBA Championship.

“From times of deep mourning to times of joyous celebration, WISN 12 is always right there, digging deep into the story and getting at the heart of how it really affects our community,” says Matt Sinn, news director of WISN 12. “It means a lot that we have been recognized with all of these awards and especially the distinction of News Operation of the Year.”
