Statement on the shooting of a 3-year-old boy
Alderwoman Larresa Taylor November 19, 2024
I am outraged that we have had yet another child badly injured by gunfire on the northwest side. Although I am very thankful that this 3-year-old did not lose his life, it is devastating that it happened in the same 9th District apartment complex where 4-year-old Jamero Edwards lost his life in February due to gunfire.
This shooting comes only a few days after we lost 2-year-old Angelo Berry from child neglect (hit by a car near N. 60th and W. Hustis).
We must be more diligent in watching over our children. Gun locks are available free of charge, and have been distributed at the apartment complex – please use them. In February, I, along with county representatives and the city’s Office of Community Wellness and Safety, visited the Bradley Townhomes and gave out FREE gun locks. Again, please use them!
Please let’s not lose another young life or have a serious gunshot injury to a child because we did not keep them safe.
Let’s work together to keep all young children safe from gun violence.
