Statement on Martin Luther King Jr. Day
As we honor Dr. King’s legacy, I am honored to continue bending the long arc of history toward justice, toward progress, and toward equality. Though today is a day of celebration, we must acknowledge a difficult past and a challenging road ahead. We still have not made good on promises of equality since Brown V. Board of Education. There is still rampant racial inequity eating away at Wisconsin’s school system. Wisconsin relies on an antiquated funding structure which furthers these racial divides and limits opportunity for students of color across our state. I entered this race because I have a vision to uplift those forgotten children. Dr. King was a pioneer and a visionary. His legacy will guide me as I become Wisconsin’s first elected Black State Superintendent.
